Building Blocks: Categories and Topics Now Available

08/27/2026

Version: 2.10.0, Date: August 27, 2026

Highlights

Building Blocks is now complete: Categories and Topics join Sections and Variables, so the reusable ingredients of a prompt all live in one place and are shared across Prompt Studio, Analyzers, Chains and Templates rather than being rebuilt inside each one. Categories in particular is the piece the rest of the app has been waiting on, since it lets you define a structure once and file everything you make against it.

  • Categories is a new Building Block. One two level taxonomy, with icons and colours, shared across the whole app.
  • Topics replaces Output Packs. Reusable sets of topics and subtopics that steer what the AI actually covers.
  • Attach categories to anything. Prompt Cards, sections, topic packs and variable packs all draw from the same list.
  • An empty generation no longer costs credits. Runs that come back with nothing stop before anything is charged.

Building Blocks

  • New: Categories is a new page under Building Blocks. Each category has a name, an icon and a colour, and can hold subcategories, giving you a two level structure that you define once.
  • New: You can attach categories to variable packs, topic packs, sections and prompt cards. Because everything draws from the same list, a category you create while working on one part of the app is immediately available in the others.
  • New: Category filtering, category chips and a subcategory builder are available wherever categories appear, so you can narrow a list down without leaving the page you are on.
  • New: AI assistance is built into the category screens. You can have a description written for a category or subcategory, or generate a set of subcategories under a parent, then edit whatever comes back.
  • New: Topics is a new page under Building Blocks for saved sets of topics and subtopics. Topic packs work the way variable packs do: you own them, you can keep them private or make them global, and you can attach an optional AI directive that shapes how the topics are used.
  • New: Subtopics can carry their own description, so a subtopic can explain the angle it covers rather than relying on its label alone. Existing topics that were stored as plain labels continue to work.
  • Improved: For this first release every category is available on every surface. Scoping categories to particular parts of the app is planned, and the groundwork is in place so it can be turned on later without disturbing anything you have already set up.
  • Removed: Output Packs are retired and replaced by Topics. The old pages and help content are gone. Topics covers the same ground with reusable packs, subtopic descriptions and the shared category system behind it.

Prompt Cards

  • New: The Outputs section on a prompt card is now the Topics section. You fill it from a Curated and My Topics sheet, and the topics you choose are saved into the card, so later edits to the pack do not change a card you have already built.

Across the App

  • Improved: Output length limits are now defined per feature in a single place rather than being set individually inside each generator, which makes result lengths more predictable across the app.
  • Improved: Pages that display icons load faster, because the app no longer pulls in the entire icon set on every page that shows one.
  • Improved: Help pages were updated across Analyzers, Prompts, Libraries, Workflows and Prompt Cards to match the new structure, and Sections now has its own help page under Building Blocks.
  • Fixed: A generation that returned no visible output could still be recorded against your credits. This happened when a reasoning model spent its whole budget on internal reasoning and returned nothing. Those runs now stop before anything is charged, so an empty result never costs you credits.
  • Fixed: The version number shown in the app could drift from the version actually running. It is now taken from the release itself, so what you see is what you are on.

Version: 2.12.3, Date: September 1, 2026 Highlights Prompt Chains is the headline of this release, but the real theme is agreement: the dashboard, the help center and the left menu had drifted apart, so the same feature could go by two names depending on where you looked.
