Sections Building Blocks, One Category Set

08/23/2026

Version: 2.8.1, Date: August 23, 2026

The Sections building block completes the reorganization started with Categories and Topics: the reusable parts of a prompt now all live in one menu. This release also retires the separate category system that prompt cards had been carrying alongside the shared one, so there is one place to manage categories and one set of names across the app.

Highlights

  • Sections is a Building Block: moved out of Prompt Studio, renamed, and sitting with Categories, Topics and Variables.
  • One category set on cards: the old card-only category dropdowns are gone, replaced by the shared taxonomy.
  • Icons in the category dropdowns: each option shows its own icon, and lists are alphabetical.
  • Select to attach: picking a category attaches it immediately, with no separate Add step.

Building Blocks

  • New: Sections now lives in Building Blocks, renamed from Section Categories, with its own list, detail and settings pages and its own help guide. The menu order is Categories, Topics, Sections, Variables.
  • Improved: All the old Section Categories addresses still work and send you to the new location, so existing bookmarks and links are safe.
  • Improved: The “Section Categories” wording is gone from the page header, help panel, buttons, back links, the section picker, the dashboard shortcut and the help guide, so the name is consistent wherever it appears.
  • Fixed: The Curated grouping in the section picker now shows real category headings. It had been reading a value that was empty on every row, so every curated section fell through to “General” regardless of how it was categorised.

Prompt Studio

  • Improved: Browse and Run now use the shared category filter and chips instead of the old dropdown and colour badges, and search matches the names of categories attached to a card, not just the card’s own text.
  • Improved: Sorting by category on both list pages now sorts on the card’s first attached category name, so the order reflects what you actually see on the card.
  • Improved: Card context now carries the full list of attached categories rather than a single category and sub-category pair, so a card that legitimately spans two areas is described accurately when it runs.
  • Improved: On the card composer, Auto-write is pinned to the right of its row with “Uses AI credits” beside it, and the character counters moved up next to their field labels. The description counter reading “0/70” directly above a credits note had been easy to misread as a credit cost.
  • Removed: Prompt cards no longer have their own Category and Sub-category dropdowns. The shared category picker is the only category control, and it now sits inside the card setup panel directly under the short description.
  • Removed: My Prompts had a second, legacy category filter running alongside the shared one, plus duplicate “Uncategorized” badges on the cards. Both are gone.

Across the App

  • Improved: Category dropdowns now show each category’s own icon as a colour tinted marker. A plain dropdown can only show text, so these are now a proper list that carries the same visual identity you set when you created the category.
  • Improved: Category dropdowns are alphabetical everywhere: the attach picker, the list page filter and the parent selector in the create dialog. Your custom drag order is still honored on the Categories pages themselves, where it is meaningful, but hundreds of options in a dropdown are unscannable in any order but alphabetical.
  • Improved: Selecting a category attaches it immediately. There is no separate Add button. Picking a different category changes your selection, picking a subcategory refines it to show parent and child together, and “Add another category” starts a fresh one. At the three category limit the controls disable rather than accepting a click that would do nothing.
  • Improved: Each “create new” link now sits under the dropdown it actually affects, and the count of how many categories you have attached sits on the label row.
  • Fixed: Subcategories generated in separate batches could end up with colliding positions, because each batch started numbering from zero. New batches now continue from the highest position already in use.
