A New Icon Picker and Required Prompt Card Categories

08/26/2026

Version: 2.9.0, Date: August 26, 2026

The icon picker gets a proper rework in this release. It opens larger, previews your choice next to the title, can be dragged to whatever size suits you, and no longer loses your selection if you resize it. Icons are also now drawn from a single catalog end to end, so an icon chosen automatically for you looks like any other and stays editable.

Building Blocks

  • New: Topics, Variables, Section Libraries and the Sections detail page now have an icon control directly on the card, sitting next to the color picker. You can change an item’s icon without opening it first, in either the grid or the list layout.

Prompt Cards

  • New: A category is now required when saving a prompt card, which keeps browsing, filtering and sorting meaningful as your collection grows. This applies when editing an older card as well, so an existing card without a category will ask you to pick one before it saves.
  • Improved: The short description character count moved from under the input up into the label row, matching the prompt name count above it. It stays visible whether or not auto write is available.
  • Improved: The category dialog dropped a redundant line of helper text about leaving the parent field empty. The explanation of when the field is unavailable is still there.

Across the App

  • New: Icons across the app now come from a single catalog rather than emoji, with one picker used everywhere. Icons you set previously still display exactly as they did; nothing rewrites what you already chose.
  • Improved: Icons assigned automatically from an item’s name and description now come from that same catalog, so an auto assigned icon is indistinguishable from one you picked yourself and remains editable.
  • Improved: The icon picker opens larger by default, sized so the group tabs fit without a scrollbar, and the live preview moved up beside the title to give the icon grid back roughly a hundred pixels of height.
  • Improved: You can drag the picker to resize it, within sensible limits, and it stays anchored where you put it rather than drifting as you drag.
  • Improved: The default icon for a new library changed from an emoji to a matching icon from the catalog, and it is now set in one place, so the default is consistent everywhere a library is created or saved.
  • Fixed: Resizing the icon picker used to close it and throw away the icon you had chosen. Resizing now behaves as expected.
  • Fixed: Closing the picker with an unsaved icon change, either by pressing Escape or clicking outside it, silently dropped the change. It now asks whether you want to discard it.

Version: 2.12.3, Date: September 1, 2026 Highlights Prompt Chains is the headline of this release, but the real theme is agreement: the dashboard, the help center and the left menu had drifted apart, so the same feature could go by two names depending on where you looked.
