Sections Hierarchy Simplified: Tabs Retired for Good
Version: 2.16.0, Date: September 5, 2026
The sections hierarchy carried a level that no other building block had: a fixed set of six tabs sitting between a Main Section and its sections. You could rename them, but you could not add one, remove one or reorder them, and the rename grid appeared when you created a Main Section, before any sections existed to file. That level is gone, and nothing replaces it. Sections now works like Topics, Variables and Categories: Sections, then Main Section, then Section, then Field.
Building Blocks
- Improved: The section picker in the composer now goes Main Section, then a flat list in your own sort order, with a “Search sections” box that works the same way as the Topic and Variable pack pickers.
- Improved: Section chip color now comes from the Main Section’s own color, so chips stay colored now that tabs are gone.
- Improved: “Library” and “Category” are retired as names for this feature. One thing had been answering to five names, and now that Categories is its own feature with its own taxonomy, calling this a category was actively wrong. A Section Library is now a Main Section throughout the interface.
- Improved: Quota screens now label the limit “Main Sections”.
- Improved: Your saved view preferences on these pages are preserved. Nothing resets.
- Improved: On a Main Section’s page, the ordering of sections is preserved exactly as it appeared before this change, including for Main Sections whose sections had never been given an explicit order.
- Fixed: The per field “Auto-write help text” control in the section editor was an unlabeled icon. It now reads “Auto-write”, matching the other five controls around it.
- Removed: The tab labels grid, on both the create window and the Main Section settings page, and the Tab selector in the section editor.
- Removed: The “All topics” filter and the “Topic A to Z” sort on sections, both of which existed only to sort by tab.
Blueprints
- Improved: The assembled card is untouched. It is still a flat ordered list you can drag to reorder, with Main Idea and AI Model pinned in place. Clone and Customize is unchanged as well: it still gives you an editable copy of a curated section inside your own card. Tabs were only ever a way of browsing the picker.
